The Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia tapped LGC to lead a creative project culminating in the creation and unveiling of an original mural by iconic muralist Shepard Fairey dedicated to the legacy and outstanding tradition of Philadelphia DJ culture.
To start, two consortiums were organized and held inviting and hosting approximately 50 key members of the Philadelphia DJ community (i.e. DJ Cash Money, Rich Medina, Cosmo Baker), in an effort to ensure an authentic voice and representation was included. A detailed POV resulted from the consortiums which was shared with Shepard Fairey to use as creative direction.
LGC planned, organized, managed the stage and executed a press event and Friday night Philly DJ Mural Block Party (October 2014) to publicly announce the project. Taking place on 13th St. between Chestnut and Walnut Sts. (near location of future mural site), renowned DJs Cash Money and RJD2 performed live. The event welcomed over 1000 attendees, 3 food trucks, and interactive sponsor activations from AT&T, Zip Car, and Dick Blick Art Materials.
Online, the event hashtag reached the top of “now trending in Philadelphia” on Twitter and Instagram with over 500k impressions garnered during the 2 hour long event.
For the culminating event and mural unveiling, Philly DJ Mural Block Party ReDux returned to 13th St. the following October 2015 attracting 2,000+ art and music culture enthusiasts. LGC hosted a VIP reception at a lounge on event block with over 150 guests representing a mix of high profile DJs, artists, educators, and city planners. Philly DJs Rich Medina, Mr. Sonny James, and DJ Royale performed, while Shepard Fairey, city council members and event sponsors spoke. The 4 hour event garnered over 1.5 million impressions on social media, with over 400 mentions on popular accounts, blogs, media outlets and special guest timelines.
In addition to project consulting, oversight and event planning/execution, LGC led branding, design, and promotion via digital assets (eblasts, social media).
